I am training for a 5K with help of Couch to 5K program and through I might try this too. I predict that I wouldn't even be able to do 1 push up on the initial test. Should I begin the program with modified push ups or old fashioned ones? As much as I'd like to do the old fashioned kind, I don't think I have the upper body strength to even finish week 1.

You could give yourself the initial test and see how you do. Or even try week 1 and figure out if you need to do the modified program. If you can't do 1 old-fashioned pushup yet, then it sounds like a modified push-ups might be a good way to start. Maybe you could start doing week 1 and 2 modified, see how you feel and then try doing regular push-ups?
